General Information

In 1947 the Alderley and District Table Tennis League was founded to promote organised table tennis in and around Alderley Edge, Cheshire in the north west of England. In 1960, the name was changed to the Wilmslow and District Table Tennis League and the area covered by the League has since expanded, now covering an area of south Manchester, north and east Cheshire.

League and handicap Cup competitions are organised for teams of 3 players with matches played on weekday evenings. Primarily a winter activity, the League table tennis season runs from September through to April.

Table tennis is a sport for all ages and abilities. Our League players range from 14 year old juniors to 80 year old veterans. The standard of players ranges from raw beginners to county level.

Unlike many other Leagues, the Wilmslow League is not in decline as the number of teams has not decreased significantly over the last few years. In the 2000/01 season, there were 20 clubs, running 36 teams in the League at 17 different venues. These teams were split into 4 divisions. For the 2021/22 season, we have 16 clubs, 31 teams and 14 venues in 3 divisions.

We always have vacancies for new teams and new players so please e-mail the Secretary if you are interested in joining 'the friendly table tennis league'.
